Questions, answered.
Short answers to what people ask most. If yours isn’t here, write to [email protected].
How does sync work?
Everkept syncs through your own iCloud, in a private database that only your Apple Account can reach. Sign in with the same Apple Account, with iCloud turned on for Everkept, and your shelves come back, on a new iPhone too. There’s no Everkept account to create.
You can see how syncing is going in Everkept’s settings, under iCloud. If you’re signed out of iCloud, your shelves stay on that iPhone until you sign in.
What is the Face ID lock?
Everkept locks itself whenever you leave it, and opens again with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. It’s on to begin with, and it’s set per device. Change it with Lock with Face ID in Everkept’s settings.
Where do my pieces live?
On your iPhone, and in your own iCloud private database. We don’t run servers and never receive a copy. Your words are stored with CloudKit encryption, so only your devices can read them. The privacy policy has the details.
Does Everkept see what I add?
No. What you add never leaves your iPhone and your own iCloud, and there are no ads. The app may count anonymous usage, like which screens are used, to make it better. It keeps no ID on your phone and never includes what you add, and a switch in Settings turns it off. The privacy policy has the details.
How does Search answer “When did I feel calm?”
On your iPhone, from what you added: shelf names, the feelings you stood on them and when, words, voice-note transcripts, captions, places, songs and dates. No AI model writes the answer, and nothing is sent anywhere to find it.
Can I export my shelves?
Not yet: this first version doesn’t have an export. Your shelves are always in your own iCloud and on your iPhone. You can share a copy of a piece or a whole shelf, as a picture or a short video, from the share sheet. If an export matters to you, tell us.
Why does Everkept ask for the camera, the microphone or Apple Music?
Only when you use them: the camera to take a photo or a short video, the microphone to record a voice note or ask Search out loud, and Apple Music to find a song and play its preview.
Adding a photo from your library doesn’t need a permission: you pick photos in the system picker, and Everkept only sees the ones you choose.
Can I open a letter early?
No. A letter opens on its own on the date you chose, one, five or ten years on or any day you pick, and not a day before. Once it’s sealed, it stays sealed, even from you.
Can I choose light or dark?
Everkept follows your iPhone, or you can choose Light or Dark under Appearance in Everkept’s settings.
What do I need?
- An iPhone with iOS 26 or later.
- iCloud, to keep a copy of your shelves and bring them to a new iPhone.
- Quick shelf uses Apple’s Journaling Suggestions, which are on iPhone.
How do I delete everything?
Delete the app from your iPhone, then remove Everkept’s data from iCloud in your iCloud storage settings. The privacy policy has the steps.
Is Everkept free?
Yes. Everkept is free, with no subscription and no ads. Later, a few optional extras will be one-time purchases, such as shelf styles and packs.
When can I get Everkept?
Now, as a beta on TestFlight. Join the beta on an iPhone with iOS 26 or later. After the beta, Everkept comes to the App Store.
